Healthy with my cat – To achieve this effect, it is therefore important to keep people away from (transmissible) diseases of their cats. This is of course the permanent task of the veterinarians. And this is why they have been working on an up-to-date information about this important topic lately.
Various veterinary commissions, above all the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) have revised the current guidelines on the transmissibility of diseases from cats to humans (zoonoses) in recent months.
In addition to a large number of specialised cat veterinarians, two doctors also belonged to this commission. It was important for the participants to consider the idea of One Health. The guidelines were also published by the World Small Animal Association (WSAVA, www.wsava.org) and the Organisation of European Cat Veterinarians (International Society for Feline Medicine – ISFM, www.icatcare.org). At the same time, experts on parasitic diseases have studied the documents – (the Companion Animal Parasite Council – capcvet.org.) and added appropriate supplements.
The result is the 2019 edition of the AAFP Feline Zoonoses Guidelines for veterinarians. For the cat owners themselves, a lot of information is available in the AAFP’s „Feline Zoonoses Client Brochure – What can I catch from my Cat“ (https://catvets.com/public/PDFs/ClientBrochures/AAFP_Feline_Zoonoses_Client_Brochure.pdf)
All this is connected with the wish that a healthy coexistence of man and cat is made possible by the manifold information.
